Brewing Education Scholarship Recipient

Calvin Hood, a rising junior in MTSU’s Fermentation Science program, learned that he was selected as the first-ever recipient of the Tenth and Blake Brewing Education Scholarship, a new collegiate academic program supported by Molson Coors Beverage Company.

On a call with representatives from Terrapin Beer Co., Tenth and Blake, and Middle Tennessee State University, Hood learned that he would have the opportunity to expand his education in fermentation sciences and kickstart his career in the brewing industry.

As part of Terraprint's goal to minimize our impact on the environment and maximize our impact on community, the Brewing Education Scholarship Fund was established to create opportunities for underrepresented populations in the brewing industry.

Through a partnership with Middle Tennessee State University's Fermentation Science Department, our goal is to open doors for students who are interested in a career in brewing by providing education and employment opportunities.

Calvin Hood is a rising junior at MTSU studying Fermentation Science. Hood grew up on a 26-acre vineyard where he first learned about the fermentation process and the possibilities that it holds. “I believe fermentation is a way of expression and an artform,” said Calvin Hood.

Now, Hood will have the opportunity to further his brewing education. “I’m new to beer but really eager to learn and feel that the possibilities are endless with the varieties in malts, hops, and yeast strains. Beer has the opportunity to be personal and I love that.”

Hood will receive funds towards tuition as a student in MTSU’s Fermentation Science program and the opportunity to intern between his junior and senior year of college at one of Terrapin’s brewing facilities at either our Atlanta or Athens breweries.
